Nalini has been an essential part of Nature and Human Health Utah's growth and success. Her dedication and passion have been instrumental in shaping our organization's path, and we wouldn't be where we are today without her contributions! As Nalini reflects on her time with us, she shares: "Our Nature and Human Health-Utah group has become a welcome entity for organizations concerned with nature and human health. I was glad to initiate this effort in 2019 and to sustain it with our co-leaders. I am happy to continue interactions with NHH-UT as a Senior Advisor, providing input on strategic planning and contacts for future work. I look forward to encountering you at upcoming events!" We are grateful for everything Nalini has done for us and are excited that she will remain involved as a Senior Advisor. Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter is excited to announce the opening of our new free exhibition, "Beauty & the Beaks: A Photographic Love Letter to the Swaner Preserve by Steve Krongard and Jodi Buren," open now through December 1st! The exhibit is fun for the whole family and full of interactive opportunities for kids and adults! All materials are available in both English and Spanish. Visitors can explore the exhibition during normal EcoCenter hours, Wednesdays – Sundays, 10 am – 4 pm.

Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement DistrictCalling all naturalists! The Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement District (SLCMAD) and Natural History Museum of Utah (NHMU) have organized the first biodiversity site survey at the SLCMAD property! When: September 8, from 10 AM - 2 PM at SLCMAD. Participants will help SLCMAD record biodiversity using the iNaturalist app including insects, birds, plants, and all other wild living organisms that can be found! This event is free, but registration is required. Registration closes Friday, 9/6 at 12:00 PM.

Utah Children’s Outdoor Recreation and Education GrantThe Utah Children's Outdoor Recreation and Education Grant (UCORE) is for programming, equipment, staffing, etc. for recreation-related programs for youth-ages 6-18 in Utah. Open September 3rd - October 18th for city, county, tribal governments, educational institutions and 501C3 nonprofits. Application asks up to $15,000 20% match from applicant.

September Community Events

There are so many incredible events in September! Check out a few of our favorites: Something’s Brewing: So many great things are brewing along the Jordan River! Come experience what’s brewing at the Nature Center at Pia Okwia and learn about exciting new community projects to support the river, all while enjoying various brewed beverages, from kombucha to beer! The event will feature educational activities, a performance of "Tarotville" by Curbside Theater, and more. All ages are welcome, and admission is free! Guests must be 21+ years of age with a valid ID to purchase beer within the designated area at the event. Tree Planting with TreeUtah: Come plant trees at the Nature Center at Pia Okwia and help the aviary establish a habitat for our feathered friends who live along the river. Admission to the nature center is free, so enjoy a stroll through the new 12-acre campus while you're there. All ages are welcome to participate! Biodiversity Survey: SLC Mosquito Abatement District: Calling all naturalists! Join us for a unique opportunity to help record species, meet SLC Mosquito Abatement staff, and explore a site typically inaccessible to the public. Participants will use iNaturalist to help the Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement District (SLCMAD) record biodiversity at their 16-acre site near the airport. We'll be identifying insects, birds, plants, and all other wild living organisms we can find! All ages are welcome, and minors must have an accompanying adult.
