Join KUER and ecologist Dr. Nalini Nadkarni on April 17 at The Leonardo for The Wonder of TreeNote, a discussion on our deep connections with trees—scientific, practical, artistic, and spiritual. Panelists include urban arborist Tony Gilot, professor Dr. George Handley, dancer Lorin Hansen, and TreeUtah director Amy May. A book signing for Dr. Nadkarni’s new book, TreeNotes: A Year in the Company of Trees, will follow.

The 2025 City Nature Challenge (CNC) will take place April 25-April 28, 2025, and is all about looking for and photographing the nature living in and around our cities using the iNaturalist platform. The goal of the CNC? Make as many iNaturalist observations of wild things in Northern Utah as possible in 4 days. The "city" in Utah is called "Utah's Wasatch," and covers Box Elder, Cache, Carbon, Davis, Salt Lake, Summit, Utah, Wasatch, and Weber Counties.

The RISE Challenge helps youth-educator groups develop projects to strengthen community resilience against natural hazards. With guidance from a facilitator and USEE staff, participants identify risks, create action plans, and share their work. In May 2025, top projects can win up to $1,000. Facilitators get free training, and projects can be completed in three weeks with FEMA and USEE support.
